5 must do's for a successful web site
1. Start off on the right foot.
Start by keeping your domain name relatively short and simple. You will want it to be easy to remember and easy for a user to type into a browser. We can help you avoid complications and headaches later by registering your domain name and finding you the right hosting plan with Wired Grafix.
Some have their site hosted by a company that provides free hosting in exchange for endless pop-up ads will make your company look unprofessional. Nothing drives potential customers from your web site faster are unwanted pop-ups, and a complicated domain address they can't get to.
2. Hire a professional to build your site.
Don't be tempted to cut corners and build your own site. You only have one chance to make a first impression with a visitor online. Put your best foot forward and take the time to find a professional web developer that is experienced and has a balance of marketing and technical skills. Proper coding in the html brings viewers to your site from search engine. Again, a site that ranks low in the major search engines is of little or no value to you. Our hosting plans come with search engine optimization and submissions.
3. Plan for a well-organized site with simple navigation.
The key to success ultimately hinges on visitors to your site being able to readily find information. The site's navigational elements should remain consistent from page to page. Each page should have a clear way to get back “Home” and also an obvious way to find your contact information. Every company, no matter how small, should ALWAYS have a “Contact” page. We always encourage clients to place a simple contact form on their “Contact” page as well. We have found that people will give you more information from a form than just a simple email link.
4. Site content.
The site pages & corresponding content should be grouped in a logical manner that is intuitive for your visitors to browse. This may require a step back to look at your business from an outside perspective. How you see things from within your business may not necessarily reflect the information your customer will need to make a decision or request additional information.
Our reviewing and any printed materials that you have will be a huge help when planning out the content of your site. Remember, your web site is really no more than on online brochure and you will want to organize your web site in a similar fashion to that of your printed materials.
You only have a few seconds to grab your visitors' attention and present your message. It requires delicate balance to describe your business in detail and hit the key points while not overwhelming the visitor with minutia. We recommend that you keep pages to no more than a few well-written concise paragraphs.
5. KIS (Keep It Simple)
One of the traps that many companies new to the web fall into is the aspiration to razzle and dazzle visitors with their web site. A lot of time, money and effort are often squandered on bells and whistles that do nothing for the ROI of the site. We feel the best rule is to “KIS”: focus on getting a get a well structured, easy to navigate, informational site up. Don't feel that you need to have the latest flash technology on your site to impress visitors. The vast majority of web surfers still have dial up. Flash openings are a source of irritation to them, not wonder. People come to your site looking for one thing and one thing only: information. Give it to them in a straightforward and easy to access manner and your site will yield results.
